RUTH MEGARY

For the victory celebration of the 3rd US Infantry Division in Klessheim Palace (Salzburg) on May 8, 1945, Megary was selected as the singer from among the remaining students of the Mozarteum in Salzburg. To do this, she had to rehearse the songs Summertime and Night and Day . As a result of her performance, she got a permanent job: until the end of the 1950s she was engaged as a singer in the troop support of the 3rd Division.

American shows followed together with the actors Margot Hielscher , Paul Dahlke , Fritz Odemar , the Ufa Film Ballet under the direction of the top film officer of the American military government, Erich Pommer .

In the 1951 film Fanfaren der Liebe , Ruth Megary starred alongside Grete Weiser , Georg Thomalla and Dieter Borsche , directed by Kurt Hoffmann . Ruth Megary starred with Gene Kelly in The Devil Makes Tree. Revues, shows and cabaret in Zurich and Basel followed. In 1955 she played in the Apollo Theater in Munich in the Christmas revue "Captain Ahoy" together with Klaus Havenstein .

In 1957, Ruth Megary completed her "private theater and singing training", as she writes on her website, when she was engaged as an opera and operetta singer in Karlsruhe. Engagements in Switzerland and a revue tour through Yugoslavia followed; in Belgrade there was a performance with the song "Summertime" in front of Josip Broz Tito on the occasion of a state reception - together with the Berliner Ensemble .

As the first emcee (in German, English and Italian) Ruth Megary became known in Munich's Apollo-Theater, and then in Germany and throughout Europe. In the 1960s, she had various guest performances in ensembles such as Die Sorgenbrecher, Auf Knall und Fall and Heiter mit Leicht Depression, as well as tours of Germany in Bremen, Hamburg, Berlin, Stuttgart, Vienna, Klagenfurt and Strasbourg.

From 1978 to 1993, Ruth Megary wowed her audience in Bavaria as "Rosa Zacherl, the newspaper lady from Munich Central Station", a character that she wrote specifically for herself. Megary, along with the artists Franzl Lang , Fred Bertelmann and Marianne and Michael , enjoyed great popularity on the Bavarian tour with the Weißblauen Laughing Parade. Guest appearances at s'Münchner Isarbrettl and Ottis Schlachthof followed.

From 1994 to 2006, Megary made a number of "farewell" appearances. In 2003, ZDF dedicated a contribution to her: "Ruth Megary – 80 years and not a bit old". In March 2012, the BR series " Lebenslinien " dedicated her a 45-minute portrait "I'm still here - the singer Ruth Megary". The broadcaster VOX committed Ruth Megary for the docu-soap "rent buy live", which was broadcast on October 10, 2013. On November 8, 2014 she appeared on the show Das Supertalent .
