The band , which originally intended the name "Bodden" (after the former striker of TSV 1860 Munich , Olaf Bodden ), turned down, [2] came in the cast Peter Brugger (guitar, vocals), Florian Weber (drums, vocals) and Andi Erhard (bass) in 1995 for the first time under the name "Stiller". The band was named after Hans Stiller, coach of the district league team SV Germering , in which Peter and Florian played football for a long time. Peter Brugger had previously played as a drummer and singer in the band Projekt Paul, along with Florian Zwietnig (later with the media group Telekommander ) and Oliver Pade (now with the band Faun ). The band is managed by Marc Liebscher (Blickpunkt Pop) and produced by Uwe Hoffmann . Rüdiger Linhof later joined Andi Erhard as bassist and keyboardist . A few years after it was founded, the band had to change its name to Sportfreunde Stiller for legal reasons, as there was already a Hamburg band called "Stiller". The group's first album, Just Like Once Real Madrid , was released in 2000. The single Independent from the second studio album The Good Side can be found on the soundtrack to the soccer computer game FIFA 03. [4] In 2004 her third studio album Burli der Germeringer was released, followed in November by her first live CD.
In the summer of 2005, the indie rock band played in smaller clubs under various secret names (eg. B. as The Dinozoffs in Munich and as The Kaltz Mannis in Frankfurt). At these concerts, she also introduced the audience to new songs such as Die Nacht. In autumn 2005 she played another secret concert in Nuremberg. Under the name The a Roth's, she debuted in '54, '74, '90, 2006 . In October 2007 she was a surprise guest at the Conrad Sohm in Dornbirn.
On June 14, 2007, the Sportfreunde Stiller gave a surprise concert at the University of Munich , but had to stop the concert after the police arrived. The band gave another surprise performance on July 14, 2007 at the Sonnenrot Festival in Geretsried : there they spontaneously jumped in for the sick band Ready, Los! which is also managed by manager Marc Liebscher.
Well-known songs of the band are e.g. B. Surfing 54, A compliment, Me Roque, Do you agree?, Applause, applause or '54, '74, '90, 2006. The members of Sportfreunde are real football fans of the Munich clubs FC Bayern Munich and TSV 1860 Munich , which is also reflected in their music: Ich, Roque is a play on words (“I rock”) on the name of former Bayern striker Roque Santa Cruz and TSV 1860 Munich player Benjamin Lauth is adored in the song Listen to Lauth.
On May 19, 2006, Sportfreunde released their album You Have to Win Zweikampf . It's a football-only album. The first single released from the album '54, '74, '90, 2006 was their biggest hit to date. The song made it to number one in the German single charts , was often sung by fans of the German national soccer team in stadiums and at fan festivals during the 2006 soccer World Cup, and the band also performed the song on numerous television broadcasts of the World Cup. The song was first introduced during the half-time break of the football game TSV 1860 Munich against 1. FC Saarbrücken . There are ten more titles on the football album, such as Our friend is made of leather or The Fritz is weather. However, the track Pogo in Togo is covered by the band United Balls (1981).
Since the German national soccer team did not reach the final at the 2006 World Cup, Sportfreunde Stiller has composed and published the title '54, '74, '90, 2006' for the 2006 World Cup in '54, '74, '90, 2010 changed. The band made the new version available on their website for a few days. This new variant of the song was previously recorded in the studio and was not originally intended to be released.
On July 20, 2007, Alles Roger was released, the first single release from the studio album La Bum , which was released on August 3. The album went straight to number 1 in the German album charts in the week after its release.
At the Bundesvision Song Contest 2008 , the band took 10th place for their state of Bavaria with the song Antinazibund.
In mid-January 2009, Sportfreunde became the sixth German band to record an MTV unplugged concert in a New York setting in the Bavaria film studios. The concert was first broadcast in abridged form on MTV on May 21, 2009, and the album was released a day later. [5] On May 8, 2009 the unplugged single A Compliment including a video from the concert was released in advance. In interviews after the release of the live album MTV Unplugged in New York , Sportfreunde Stiller announced that they wanted to take a longer break. [6] [7]
Her album entitled New York, Rio, Rosenheim was released on May 24, 2013. [8] The tour for the album included a total of 35 concerts and began on October 23, 2013 in Eisenstadt . The farewell concert took place at the Zeltfestival Ruhr on August 24, 2014 in Bochum . The band then decided to take an indefinite hiatus. [9] In July 2016, a new album entitled Sturm & Stille was announced for October 7, 2016, with the song Raus in den Rausch being released as the first single. [10] The second single The Gift has been available since September 2, 2016.
